The new dog

On Sunday, June 28th 2009, we went to PAWS, a local no-kill shelter, to look at dogs. One of the dogs I wanted to see happened to be sharing a room with a shy, somewhat nervous black Australian cattle dog. As it happens, this dog sidled right up to Sarah, and made fast friends, while I was preoccupied with the other dog in the room...
So, the next day, I went back meet the more shy dog, and fell absolutely in love. After some discussion by phone, Sarah and I agreed that this is, in fact, our dog. Wrap him up, we'll take him.
We haven't quite settled on a name, at the moment, but I can say that his personality is a funny mix of perky and energetic, but also a little nervous and shy. I think he'll take a while exploring the surroundings, before he really gets comfortable. Other than being house-broken, he's thoroughly untrained-- but he's a quick study, and less than 24 hours after coming home, he's already starting to learn to sit reliably on command.

So, here's some pictures, and some movies:
His first photo at home
The first photo I took, in a hurry, to send to family.
Playing in the yard
In our backyard, after a fine round of fetch.
He's got a ball!
I even got a quick video of him catching the ball a few times

Of course, Chloe (our existing 10-year-old cat) is still, ahem, adjusting to this new interloper. Chloe loved Leah, our last dog, and I'm sure she'll come around to the new dog... but in the meantime...
Chloe is on top of the kitchen cabinets
...She is not amused...
And what follows is a short video of their first face-to-face meeting
